Numbers 5:7
Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed. Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed.
The one who has sinned against another is required to confess the wrong that was done and to make restitution to the one who was wronged. Restitution means repaying what was taken or restoring what was damaged, with the principal amount plus a fifth part of its value added to it. This requirement reaches fraud and injury and false or harmful statements, so that one who has made misstatements must correct them before those who heard them and labor to restore the injured person's good name.
Righting such a wrong also includes bringing a trespass offering to God. Confession and restitution in this way belong to turning away from dishonesty and overreaching, in order that sin may be blotted out and the person's name be retained in the book of life.
