Numbers 6:11

And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day.

The regulation applies to a person bound by the Nazarite vow who has been made unclean by contact with the dead. For that defilement the priest is to present one offering as a sin offering and the other as a burnt offering. The two offerings are birds, one bird given for each kind of offering. By them the priest makes atonement for the defiled person and hallows his head anew on that same day. This action belongs to the period of purification connected with the Nazarite vow, a period that was brought to its close with offerings. That purification involved a seven-day course and called for costly sacrifices.
