The offerings described in the chapter were gifts for the sanctuary service brought by the princes of Israel. Those princes were the heads of the house of their fathers and the princes of the tribes. They were the ones set over them that were numbered, having charge and responsibility over those counted in the census. In bringing the offerings they acted as representatives of the people, presenting them on behalf of those under them for the sanctuary service.
