And Aaron did so; he lighted the lamps thereof over against the candlestick, as the LORD commanded Moses.
Aaron lighted the seven lamps of the golden candlestick to shine forward from it, doing exactly as the Lord had commanded through Moses, and that candlestick with its seven lamps was by God's express direction set and kept burning in the first apartment of the earthly tabernacle. This direction belongs to the instructions governing the Levites' service in the sanctuary, showing that the temple service was appointed according to the book of Moses. Because the earthly tabernacle was the pattern of things in the heavens, the seven lamps of fire burning before the throne that John saw prove that he was looking into the first apartment of the heavenly sanctuary. That first apartment is where Jesus was when John saw Him take the book, and where Christ as High Priest commenced His ministration in the heavenly sanctuary.
