Obadiah 1:13
Thou shouldest not have entered into the gate of my people in the day of their calamity; yea, thou shouldest not have looked on their affliction in the day of their calamity, nor have laid hands on their substance in the day of their calamity;
In the prophecy to which this warning belongs, Jacob stands for believers and Esau stands for unbelievers. The two names are not only ancient brothers and nations but enduring spiritual identities carried through to the end. Their opposition therefore reaches beyond their own history into the final crisis of faith and unbelief.
That ancient conflict foreshadows the closing strife between the saints and the power represented by the image beast. What Edom did in entering the gate, gazing on affliction, and seizing substance in the day of calamity prefigures what that end-time power will attempt against God's people. The outcome for the oppressors is likewise foreshadowed, with deliverance for the saints and judgment upon their adversaries.
