Scenes From the Book of Obadiahby KalebRosendahl

Obadiah 1:18

And the house of Jacob shall be a fire, and the house of Joseph a flame, and the house of Esau for stubble, and they shall kindle in them, and devour them; and there shall not be any remaining of the house of Esau; for the LORD hath spoken it.

The houses of Jacob and Joseph denote God's people, the believers, while the house of Esau denotes their unbelieving opponents. The house of Jacob shall become a fire and the house of Joseph a flame, and they shall kindle in the house of Esau as in stubble and devour it, so that none of the house of Esau remains. This is the closing conflict over the image of the beast, when a decree to kill those who refuse to worship the image brings fear and distress upon the saints, yet the saints are not killed. In that distress they cry for deliverance. They are delivered by the voice of God, and the burning up of the house of Esau is the fate of the unbelieving opposition in that conflict.
