Philippians 2:30
Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me. Because for the work of Christ he was nigh unto death, not regarding his life, to supply your lack of service toward me.
For the work of Christ Epaphroditus risked his life and came nigh unto death, not regarding his life. He accepted that danger to supply what was lacking on the Philippians' part, making up for their inability to serve Paul in person and for their absence from him. While Paul was a prisoner at Rome, the church at Philippi sent gifts to meet his needs through Epaphroditus, who served Paul and ministered to his wants.
In that service Epaphroditus became sick and came close to dying. When the Philippians heard of his sickness they were anxious about him and he longed to return to them, so Paul sent him back so they could rejoice and Paul himself could be less sorrowful. Because he had disregarded his own life in this service, he was to be received in the Lord with gladness and held in honor.
