The counsel is addressed to a child not to walk together with those who follow an evil course. The reason is that one who surrenders himself to Satan's leading becomes an agent to draw and entice others to join him in that same way. To go with such companions is therefore to place oneself under an influence that actively seeks to lead astray.
For this reason parents and teachers are to act promptly and wisely to correct and overcome the evil in a child's heart. That evil shows itself in resistance to restraint, in self-indulgence, and in indifference to eternal things. Unless it is eradicated, the soul will be lost.
