She crieth in the chief place of concourse, in the openings of the gates: in the city she uttereth her words, saying,
Wisdom cries aloud in the busiest public places, in the streets and crowded gathering areas, at the openings of the gates, and throughout the city, so that her words are openly available for people to hear. This open cry means God publicly gives light and evidence and counsel and reproof to the simple, the scorners, and the fools. She calls them to turn at His reproof, with the promise to pour out His Spirit upon them and to make His words known to them. Her words are not confined to places of worship, as shown by Christ preaching in synagogues, by the seaside, and along well-traveled routes.
Refusing to yield, setting counsel at naught, and rejecting reproof brings moral darkness and a curtain of unbelief so that light cannot be distinguished from darkness. Greater evidence only increases indifference in those who refuse. The deceived soul comes to call darkness light and truth error.
The sure result of such refusal is calamity and fear coming as desolation and whirlwind and distress. Then there is calling without answer and seeking without finding, because knowledge was hated and the fear of the Lord was not chosen. Those who refuse are left to eat the fruit of their own way and to be filled with their own devices. But whoever listens to wisdom dwells safely and is quiet from fear of evil.
