Proverbs 1:4

To give subtilty to the simple, to the young man knowledge and discretion.

The words belong to divinely inspired wisdom that stands as immortal truth. Solomon recorded them while his mind was surrendered to God, but afterward evil associations and yielding to temptation weakened his moral power and led him away from God.

Education as set forth here gives prudence to the inexperienced and knowledge and discretion to the young. Its aim is not merely to load the memory with facts. It is to develop sound judgment and the ability to use knowledge wisely.
