Proverbs 10:30

The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

The verse sets forth the opposite lasting destinies of the righteous and the wicked with respect to the earth. Its promise belongs not to this present life, in which both righteous and wicked die and are removed, but to the time after Christ's coming when the earth is cleansed by fire and renewed and God's kingdom is established. Never being removed does not mean the righteous never leave the earth, for they may be caught up to meet the Lord and taken to heaven for a time, then return to dwell and reign forever on the new earth after the wicked are cut off. The righteous shall remain in the earth forever and inherit it as their lasting home, which is the everlasting inheritance of the meek on the renewed earth. The wicked shall not inhabit the earth nor have a place anywhere in God's universe, but shall be finally cut off and destroyed out of it until they cease to exist. The earth itself is not blotted out of existence when sin and sinners are removed, but is purified, restored and made new to be the enduring home of the righteous.

Wording and Time Fulfilled

The contrast is one of permanent destiny, physical and lasting: the righteous will not be permanently removed from the earth but will be restored to rightful dominion there, while the wicked will not inhabit it forever. Both the present earth under the curse and a stay in heaven can be temporary even when long, so the antithesis concerns permanence rather than immediate presence. The verse is most naturally read of the new earth, where the righteous dwell and reign forever and their return is a reinstatement.

Never being removed does not mean never leaving the earth or remaining physically stationary. Taking it to mean the saints cannot leave the earth would conflict with their being caught up to meet the Lord, and the promise of an enduring inheritance does not say where the saints will be during the thousand years. The unremovable condition is stability on the sure foundation of God's word, like Mount Zion, from which removal is impossible, and this is consistent with being caught up to meet Christ and taken to the mansions on high. The righteous receive that secure inheritance after the wicked are cut off, at the end of the thousand years.

The promise belongs to the future rather than to possessions, troubles, or recompense in this present life, since in this life righteous and wicked alike die and are removed. It is fulfilled after Christ's coming, when He finishes the controversy of Zion, delivers His children from bondage, conquers their last enemy, and delivers them from the tempter, on the earth cleansed by fire. Then the earth is regenerated and renewed, the curse and poison of sin are removed and exhausted from it, God's kingdom is established on earth, the righteous possess and dwell in it and are planted in their inheritance to remain forever, while the wicked are destroyed, cut off to exist no longer and have no place there, awaiting resurrection and final judgment. The same future fulfillment holds for the regenerated earth after Christ's coming in which the righteous inherit and remain forever.

When sin and sinners are removed the earth itself is not blotted out of existence but is restored as the enduring home of the righteous. Made new after purification, it will then fill the place it was made to fill. When Christ comes it shall be re-cast, restored, re-constituted and re-beautified to more than its first and pristine glory, transformed with sin gone and the footfall of its Maker heard in it again into an orb like no other. The earth abides forever as the everlasting home of the righteous without removal, and this emphatic promise proves it will not be burned up and destroyed when the gospel work is finished. Though there will be a great burning day when the earth is on fire, only the works in the earth are burned up while the earth itself continues.

Righteous Inheritance, Wicked Fate

The righteous will remain in the earth forever and inherit it as their lasting home. After they are planted in their inheritance they will remain there forever and dwell in the promised inheritance on the new earth. This remaining is not a reward received merely in this life but the final state after the wicked are removed and cut off so they no longer live there. The earth was not made to be the home of the wicked, and the Lord's people inherit the land and dwell in it forever.

The verse upholds the promise that the meek shall inherit the earth and dwell therein forever. That everlasting inheritance is of the renewed earth, entered after the wicked are finally removed and cut off. It does not describe a recompense completed in this present life.

Everlasting possession of the earth belongs with righteousness, for only the righteous have everlasting life and can enjoy the inheritance forever. For that purpose the earth was made, and on the earth made new after its purification it will then fill the place it was made to fill with the righteous remaining permanently in their inheritance. The righteous receive the earth as an enduring possession in contrast to the wicked being cut off from it.

The wicked shall not inhabit the earth, live there, or have a place there or anywhere in God's universe. Their sins ruin the earth and oppose God's purpose, so they will be finally cut off and completely destroyed out of the earth. They will be no more anywhere, ceasing to exist with their place no longer found. This is the future recompense of both groups on the earth, the security of the righteous who will never be removed set against the final removal of the wicked who will not remain its inhabitants.
