Proverbs 11:6

The righteousness of the upright shall deliver them: but transgressors shall be taken in their own naughtiness.

The saying stands in the principal portion of the book credited to Solomon, the proverbs of Solomon in chapters 1 to 24, brought together by him or in his time. As a proverb it is a maxim and a comparison, a brief sententious statement of familiar truth.

The righteousness of the upright delivers them, carrying them through difficulties and dangers. Their uprightness is moral integrity, looking to God to learn duty and doing it despite risks, in trust that a faithful course leads to His approval and welcome. By contrast transgressors are taken in their own naughtiness, ensnared and brought down by their own wickedness.
