Proverbs 12:1

Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.

To love being corrected is to love learning itself, while to hate being reproved is to be brutish in mind and heart. Hatred of reproof and contempt for correction lay bare the inner character, showing itself openly in jealousy and in a habit of finding fault with others. Love for the spirit of the third angel's message cannot join or work together with the spirit that hates reproof, for the two are opposed and exclusive. Those who hate reproof and despise correction will not endure but will be shaken out when the coming sifting separates the true from the false.
