Proverbs 12:19

The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.

The lip of truth shall be established forever, while a lying tongue and falsehood last only for a moment. Truthful speech endures, while deceitful and lying speech lasts only briefly and ultimately fails. Truth remains established even when deception is widely practiced. Truth is better because God is on its side.

God's Word expresses His truth, and the message borne by His ministers rests on that enduring truth rather than on human authority or tradition. A lie may bring a brief gain, but that gain passes while the lie remains attached to the liar with lasting moral consequences. Liars have no place in heaven. Lying weakens and disintegrates character and destroys trust.

Lying leaves a person's pleasures and satisfactions shallow and short-lived. A false report does not last long. The life a person leads is the best defense of that life. Truth must be upheld in both words and actions, since a person may lie by acting falsely as well as by speaking.

Calling a lie white does not make it truthful, and every lie is evil. The verse warns against falsehood and urges steadfast truthfulness. It calls people to tell the truth about themselves and others and to use their words in favor of God's truth.
