There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
No evil will in the end befall the just or do them real harm, and evil will not hold final power over them. They may still be tempted, tried, persecuted, imprisoned, and even put to death, yet all such troubles are only temporary. Wicked men can oppress them only so far as God permits, and their triumph is brief. Even when harm does come to the just, God is able to turn it to blessing. Their hardships are not His destroying wrath or condemnation, but a family rod meant to correct and bless rather than to punish and destroy.
God will at last save them from evil forever. By contrast, the wicked shall be filled with mischief, evil, and trouble. They reap the consequences of their own choices. In times of peril this is comfort and assurance of safety to those who heed God.
