The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
The law of the wise is God's own wise law, the ten precepts of the Decalogue. That law is a fountain of life, and its office is to turn people aside from the snares of death.
The law itself is not a curse, for it was ordained unto life. Death comes as the consequence of sin, and sin is the transgression of the law, so that violating the law brings death upon the violator. Christ redeems the penitent sinner from that curse of death, yet He does so without removing or abolishing the law.
