Proverbs 13:22

A good man leaveth an inheritance to his children’s children: and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

A good man leaves an inheritance that reaches beyond his own children to his children's children. The richest inheritance pointed to is not money or land but an unstained character, the consciousness of a pure and honorable life, which keeps its worth even when material fortune is lost. A large material inheritance can ruin children when it is not used wisely, as seen when a son became intemperate and lost his share and a daughter's immoral husband spent hers. It serves children better to support education and Christianity than to leave them so much money.
