The heart knoweth his own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with his joy.
Each heart alone knows the bitterness within itself, inward and private and unseen by others. No outsider, no stranger, can fully share in or enter into another person's sorrow and joy. Because that inner experience cannot be transferred to another, care must be taken not to pour personal sorrows into the hearts of others and burden them. Because inward pain and motives are thus hidden, no one can rightly judge another's motives or inner condition, but each is to guard his own heart rather than criticize a brother.
Those carrying the heaviest responsibilities bear such a hidden burden that a distracted manner does not come from intending to slight anyone. They are bowed down under pressure of debt upon the work, seeking counsel and praying as they walk while looking away from earthly things to Christ in the heavenly sanctuary. Therefore they must not be judged as neglectful, and none should become irritable and sore over supposed deficiencies in them.
