Proverbs 14:3

In the mouth of the foolish is a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

In the mouth of the foolish lies a switch of arrogance, while the lips of the wise guard those who use them.
Arrogance belongs to folly and cannot live alongside wisdom, pushing toward quarreling and senseless behavior, whereas discreet speech keeps a person safe.
Haughty talk draws chastisement and distress back upon the speaker, while prudent words keep the wise secure.
Senselessness is where arrogance begins and disgrace is where it ends.

In a child, foolish pride and self-will show themselves in what is said.
A little girl's angry answer when her mother denied her request is an instance of this.
Such childish folly is the sort that calls for corrective discipline, as taught in Proverbs 22:15.
