Proverbs 15:30

The light of the eyes rejoiceth the heart: and a good report maketh the bones fat.

The light of the eyes is a bright, pleasing look, a beautiful sight that brings joy to the heart. A good report is good, encouraging news that brings joy to the heart and gives strength, refreshment and health, enlivening the whole person and making the bones fat. Because such a report is health-giving, seeking health includes caring for and encouraging others rather than focusing only on oneself.

In home life, greeting a husband with a cheerful, unclouded manner instead of fretfulness serves as such a good report that brings inward joy and refreshment. A lovely sight such as Jenny with the birds at the window can lift a gloomy household mood, brightening Margaret's face and opening the way through Mr. Spencer's account of it to warm conversation.

A favorable summary of the work in home and foreign fields encourages and strengthens its readers and moves them to gratitude to God, its figures representing faithful labor in spreading the third angel's message through printed publications. A favorable report of a conference's financial and institutional progress brings gladness, renewed strength and encouragement. A favorable financial report from the mission field in the Bahama Islands brings gladness to the heart and refreshes those who hear it.
