Proverbs 18:22

Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

Finding a wife is finding a good thing and obtaining favour of the Lord. The promise does not mean that every wife is good or comes from the Lord; a virtuous wife is a crown to her husband, while a wife who brings shame is like rottenness in his bones, as Proverbs 12:4 clarifies.

It is finding a wife of godly character that is finding a good thing and receiving the Lord's favour. Such a wife is prudent and trustworthy, does her husband good, speaks with wisdom and kindness, cares diligently and faithfully for her household, and is blessed and praised by her family.

A life companion should love and fear God, be diligent and honest, share life's burdens, and help to ennoble and refine her husband. Marriage marks an important era and turning point in a person's life, and a wife may be a source of lasting and deep joy and honor and a crown of rejoicing to her husband.
