Man Draws a Bucket of Water from a WellBible World

Proverbs 18:4

The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

The likeness of a man's words to deep waters and of the wellspring of wisdom to a flowing brook means that wisdom is living and life-giving. It is not stagnant but moving and continuous, like a brook that flows on and supplies life wherever it goes. This places wisdom among the biblical pictures of Christ and His grace, as one of the images by which spiritual life is made known. In that setting wisdom is a source of spiritual refreshment and blessing, bringing renewal as water brings refreshment to the thirsty.
