Proverbs 2:10

When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul;

When wisdom enters the heart and knowledge becomes pleasant, welcome, precious delight to the soul, it is inwardly cherished within rather than merely known as facts and theories however important in themselves or merely spoken about. This inward reception gives discernment that preserves and keeps from the path of evil, with discretion watching over and understanding keeping the person. It is the fruit of receiving the wisdom the Lord gives, applied to the truths and precepts of the Bible.

This wisdom comes from the Lord and is given to those who seek it earnestly as silver and hidden treasure, as precious treasure, by inclining the ear to wisdom and applying the heart to understanding. It comes to those who feel responsibility to feed the soul for practical use, who practice the precepts of the Bible, the Book of books, and who keep a prayerful frame of mind. When so received it is soul food that nourishes spiritual life and brings new life, bringing life and health and preserving the mind for eternal life. This stands in contrast to gratifying carnal desires and spending probationary time on fictitious tales and novel-reading, which ruins the mind, diseases the imagination, and creates unrest and appetite for unwholesome mental food.

It brings understanding of the fear of the Lord, the fear of Jehovah, and the knowledge of God, and understanding of righteousness and justice and equity and every good path. As a tree of life it brings happiness to all who lay hold of and retain her. With it discretion watches over and understanding keeps the person, giving discernment that preserves from the path of evil, the evil way, and the evil man who speaks perverse things. Heeding it builds upright character and prepares young people to act faithfully in their responsibilities.

It opens the mouth with wisdom and puts the law of kindness on the tongue so one can serve the Lord Jesus by speaking a word in season to those brought within influence. In this way one represents Christ with eternal things as the theme, brings the realities of eternity near, shows a life learned from Jesus, and watches for souls and searches for the lost sheep as one who must give an account. Where this inward wisdom is lacking, confidence is placed in selfish, unclean men whose lives are not clean and upright, their selfish and self-serving ideas are seized and acted upon, rumors are followed and men run on rumor without a message from God, and people remain unsettled without a firm hold and firm grip on the Lord and need thorough conversion. In any important crisis such men make trouble and draw under their influence those who should by experience have cut away from them, and the light of the Sun of Righteousness does not shine upon them.

Those who have this wisdom stand with faces to the foe, fight courageously and manfully, know Christ as the Son of God and the Author and Finisher of faith, make unreserved surrender, and ask in faith for guidance to go out where land can be obtained and cultivated. As part of the instruction in chapters 2, 3, and 4, the verse is to be read and considered to correct too much visiting and unprofitable conversation and to honor the Lord in word, applying specifically to the truths and precepts of the Bible.
