Proverbs 21:15

It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.

The verse is one of the collected wise sayings, poetic in style, that gives a practical rule for the common experiences of everyday life and for duty to family, neighbor, friend, and God, upholding modesty, chastity, temperance, forbearance, gentleness, industry and other virtues, and urging submission to correction. It is counsel of Christ in the character of Wisdom to be studied in the light of scriptural examples, and it belongs to Proverbs 19 to 22 appointed for May 26 under the thought of temperance and talebearing.

Doing what is right and just is joy to the just and righteous, while destruction and ruin come to evildoers and workers and practicers of iniquity. Doing justice itself is the joy of the righteous, in contrast to the momentary folly that is joy to him destitute of wisdom who rejoices in riches, fame, pleasure, or other lustful things of this life apart from God. The verse reveals God as creator and governor of the universe and disposer of human destinies, who rewards piety and punishes evil.

Obeying God's word with the whole heart brings this joy, because the just rejoice in practicing righteousness. At the separation of the dead, the just will be taken by Jesus, made alive, and go to heaven with Him, while the wicked will remain in death.
