Proverbs 21:25

The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.

The slothful person's own craving destroys him because he will not put his hands to work, and unchecked desire left without labor ends in ruin. Refusal to work in this sense includes holding back the labor owed to God, above all failing to use personal influence to draw others into the Lord's service. Against this selfish withholding stands the righteous person, whose life is marked by generosity rather than self-seeking idleness.
