Proverbs 23:8

The morsel which thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.

The warning concerns rich food accepted from a host whose heart is not sincere. Such eating ends in regret, for the morsel taken in will be rejected from the stomach. The gracious words spoken in thanks and fellowship are likewise wasted and lost. Applied to temperance, gratifying appetite with rich food harms the whole person and perverts the moral and spiritual life.
