Proverbs 24:17

Rejoice not when thine enemy falleth, and let not thine heart be glad when he stumbleth:

The verse forbids outward rejoicing when an enemy falls. It equally forbids inward gladness of heart when he stumbles. It therefore teaches people not to avenge themselves for wrongs suffered. It also teaches them not to take pleasure in an enemy's misfortune.
