Proverbs 24:2

For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.

Evil men are known by a double corruption, with the heart inwardly studying and plotting destruction, ruin and harm while the lips and mouth outwardly talk, speak and stir up mischief and trouble. Because their inner thought is set on destruction and their speech is set on mischief, they are not to be envied and their company is not to be desired or sought as companions.

For Sabbath-keepers this means staying separate from the ungodly and refusing to attend the places of amusement of the present day. Such places include circuses, fairs, festivals, and other gatherings of those who love pleasure more than they love God.

The same description fits the makers and puffers of corrupting daily papers that fill the nation with theater and circus advertisements, rum and tobacco promotions and puffs, political strife, novels and romances, obscene jests, and infidel sneers. Their inward plotting and outward speech produce intemperance, blasphemy, and Sabbath-breaking, make youth rude, vain, dissipated and profane, and bring increasing wickedness upon cities and villages, for which God will bring every work into judgment.
