For there shall be no reward to the evil man; the candle of the wicked shall be put out.
The evil person has no lasting future or reward. Their candle or light being put out means it is extinguished in disgraceful and ignominious darkness. Every person is given a period of probation, but those who harden their hearts in iniquity reach a limit of grace beyond which they can expect nothing from God but indignation and punishment. The putting out of the candle means the Lord Himself ends the life of the transgressor and commands their destruction, because they have lived only for themselves.
That end is fast approaching though it has not yet fully come. Meanwhile nations advance from one degree of sinfulness to another, and children educated and trained in transgression add to the evil passed on to them by parents who have no fear of God. Judgments have already begun to fall in various calamities to lead people to repent and be converted to truth and righteousness.
The impenitent who have worked against God in league with the great rebel will be treated in accordance with their works when God arises in His almighty character as God above all gods. By contrast, the righteous will shine like the sun in the Father's kingdom and receive immortal life to live forever with God. They will reign forever with God as their light.
