Proverbs 24:23

These things also belong to the wise. It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment.

The saying stands among the later sayings in Proverbs. Those later sayings are compact expressions of wisdom, and for the most part simple and easy to understand. They were not all written by Solomon himself, for some may have been gathered by later kings from Solomon's scattered writings. Impartial judgment is one of the things that belong to the wise.

It is not good to have respect of persons in judgment, and partiality in judging is wrong. When circumstances are equal, persons are to be judged by their merits rather than by outward appearances. The same rule holds among Christians, where differences in gifts or position give no ground for pride, for contempt of the poor, or for cold treatment of others. Believers are instead to love one another and to show sympathy to all for whom Christ died.
