A Woman Gives Bread and Water to a Roman Soldierby emmanuel_higgins

Proverbs 25:21

If thine enemy be hungry, give him bread to eat; and if he be thirsty, give him water to drink:

The verse commands active, practical kindness to an enemy in physical need, supplying food when he is hungry and water when he is thirsty. It rules out personal revenge and requires compassion even toward one who hates or does harm. The reward for such kindness is given by the Lord, and is not to be sought from the injured person's enemy.
