Silversmith Pouring Molten Silver from a CrucibleBible World
25:4Proverbs 25:4
Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
The proverb belongs to the collection of Solomon's proverbs copied out by the scribes of Hezekiah. Its image is drawn from the refining of metal, in which dross must be taken away from silver before a vessel for fine use can come forth. The lesson is the need to sift out what is inferior and retain what is useful and good. Applied to books on health, this means keeping the valuable cookbooks while discarding the worthless ones, just as gold is separated from dross.
