Proverbs 25:6

Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great men:

Proverbs 25:6 belongs among practical counsels for everyday life, illustrating the teaching on modesty as a moral virtue. It forbids presuming access to a ruler and ranking oneself among his honored guests. Approach must instead be made in the proper way, as through a secretary, and one must wait to be invited into his presence.

The command calls for a meek spirit that does not seek honor or promotion. It is not satisfied by merely taking a low place outwardly while envying those above and hoping to be invited higher.
