Proverbs 26:8

As he that bindeth a stone in a sling, so is he that giveth honour to a fool.

Proverbs 26:8 stands within Proverbs 25-29, which are proverbs of Solomon copied out by men appointed by Hezekiah. It forms part of the practical counsel of Proverbs concerning moral conduct and everyday life. To give honor to a fool is as futile and harmful as fastening a stone in a sling, for honor is wrongly bestowed when it is given to one who lacks wisdom.
