For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation?
Riches are not forever but are temporary and cannot be relied on to last. Even a crown does not remain through every generation, for the power it represents is temporary and passes away with wealth and worldly power. Because wealth cannot provide lasting happiness, it is unwise to make gaining it the aim of life. Trusting in riches makes entering God's kingdom difficult, in keeping with Christ's warning.
