Proverbs 28:19
He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough. He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
Steady tilling of one's own land and faithful attention to one's own responsibilities produces sufficiency of food and plenty of bread. Following after vain persons and pursuing unproductive aims brings poverty in full measure and in abundance. The lesson is to live within one's means rather than reaching beyond what steady labor provides. It warns against leaving a secure place and entering risky ventures in pursuit of a supposedly better condition.
