When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.
Keeping God's commandments brings rest that is free from fear, and makes sleep pleasant when lying down. Obedience carries the promise of added length of days together with long life and peace. That peace includes walking in the way with safety, without stumbling.
There is also freedom from dread of sudden harm and from the ruin that overtakes the wicked. The reason is that the Lord Himself is one's confidence. He guards the foot from being caught.
