Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.
Every word of God is pure, without mixture or error, and therefore wholly trustworthy to be relied upon. He himself is a shield and protector to those who put their trust in him, covering with defense all who rest upon his pure word.
No human ideas are to be added to his words, for to add to them invites his reproof and exposes the one who does so as a liar. Because his word is pure and unalterable, it is to be spoken faithfully as it stands, as the authoritative word that renews the soul. Its purity demands reverence in use, so it is not to be handled carelessly, quoted as a joke, or paraphrased to make a witty saying. That reverence is shown above all by obeying what he has spoken, since nothing that God commands is unessential.
Whatever is out of harmony with what Christ came to earth to unfold is false and delusive. Jesus is the trustworthy standard of truth because he is one with God and came from heaven, and his words give a trustworthy witness about heavenly things. He stood in the counsels of God and dwelt in the everlasting heights of the sanctuary, with all elements of truth in him and from him, so that all who are of the truth hear his voice.
