Proverbs 30:9
Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain. Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.
The reason for praying each day, give us this day our daily bread, is found in this verse. It teaches to ask only for food that is convenient and needful for sustaining life, nothing more and nothing less. To have too much leads to being full, and in that fullness to denying God and saying in effect, who is the Lord, rejecting His authority. To have too little leads to poverty, and in that poverty to stealing and taking the name of God in vain, bringing dishonor upon Him.
