She is like the merchants’ ships; she bringeth her food from afar.
This verse belongs to the portrait of the capable woman and wife, in which practical skill in household duties and providing for the household stands central to her character. She is shown as actively obtaining and providing food for her household. Like trading vessels, she brings that provision in from distant places. Learning kitchen work and preparing food that is both wholesome and palatable is therefore an essential domestic skill.
