Proverbs 4:20

My son, attend to my words; incline thine ear unto my sayings.

Those who seek wisdom must give close, careful, receptive attention to God's words and listen attentively to His instruction. Such attending means strictly heeding Bible principles and setting forth Jesus and the gospel principles of truth and righteousness and the revelation of God's goodness and mercy. The words so attended to are to remain continually before the eyes and in the heart, guiding the whole course of life. This attention is simple and single-minded in its pursuit of God's wisdom, and it supports lawful striving for a perfected character.

Attending to God's words gives life and health, acting as medicine for soul and body that both cures sickness and prevents sickness. As medicine it renews health and life as the leaves of the tree of life renew life. Its object is to secure the highest possible development of mind and soul and body, for the laws of nature are God's laws designed for good, and obedience to them promotes happiness in this life and prepares for the life to come. This heed is elevating and restoring, and does more than all else to uplift humanity.
