Face With Verses on Ears, Eyes and MouthBible World
4:24Proverbs 4:24
Put away from thee a froward mouth, and perverse lips put far from thee.
The command is to put away dishonest, crooked, twisted, and perverse speech from the mouth and to keep perverse words far from the lips. It belongs to walking the shining path of the just toward the perfect day by attending to God's words, keeping them before the eyes and in the midst of the heart as life and health, guarding the heart with all diligence because life flows from it, keeping the eyes looking straight forward, and pondering and establishing the path of the feet. Seeking wisdom and striving lawfully for perfection of character includes obeying this instruction about speech. Obeying it requires a single eye to God's glory with a single and persistent purpose that leaves self and the preferences of others out of the question, without calculating personal gain or loss, and cherishing great simplicity in seeking God's wisdom, and then the feet will not slide.
The verse calls for careful training of the tongue so that speech honors the Lord. In the family, conversation should be profitable, foolish words do no good, and people are accountable for what they say. Crooked speech gives Satan a foothold in the soul. In practice, the lips must not utter unbelief but should speak hope.
