Proverbs 4:25

Let thine eyes look right on, and let thine eyelids look straight before thee.

Looking straight ahead means the seeker of wisdom keeps attention and purpose fixed directly forward without being turned aside. It is a call to strive lawfully for perfection of character with a single eye to the glory of God. No one else can do that seeing and guiding in spiritual experience; each person must do it for himself.

The aim required is simple, single, and persistent to honor God, leaving self-interest and the preferences of others out of the decision. Such singleness refuses to decide one's course by whether personal possessions will increase or decrease. With that great simplicity in seeking God's wisdom, the feet will not slide, the path of the feet is pondered, and all ways are established.
