The Young Man's Crossroads from Proverbs 5by Joel

Proverbs 5:16

Let thy fountains be dispersed abroad, and rivers of waters in the streets.

The fountains and streams are dispersed abroad through a city's streets, as water is led along one street and then another at different times to water trees, orchards, and gardens. In such a place access to a stream for set hours belongs to a garden and is counted in its price. Proverbs 5 is a warning to young men against sexual temptation, bidding them fill their minds with its instruction. That warning reaches men and women, married and single, because sexual temptation is widespread and may be stirred by food and drink, by literature and theaters, by suggestive advertising and fashions, and by lewd talk and nude art.

Faithful marital love is an overflowing fountain whose joy spreads outward in widening circles of influence and blesses all it touches. Its intimate bond belongs to husband and wife alone, even while its happiness flows outward to others. Marital fidelity is thus a source of complete, overflowing happiness, in which the love of husband and wife blesses those around them and needs no other partner. Like an overflowing cup, faithful love is both sufficient in itself and generous toward others.
