The Young Man's Crossroads from Proverbs 5by Joel

Proverbs 5:18

Let thy fountain be blessed: and rejoice with the wife of thy youth.

The verse calls a husband to find joy in the wife he married in his youth, who is the mother of his children, and to keep his love fixed upon her. Rejoicing is not a passing feeling but a settled keeping of affection centered on her through life. To listen to the suggestion that another woman would be a more suitable companion is contrary to that blessed rejoicing. To let the mind dwell on charming pictures of her is to entertain unholy affection. To allow affection to be weaned from his wife and fixed upon the other woman is the forbidden transfer the verse guards against.

That inward dwelling enthrones the other woman as his god. It works his downfall through temptation that comes stealthily and deceptively.
