Young Man Passes the Woman's Doorway at DuskBible World
7:7Proverbs 7:7
And beheld among the simple ones, I discerned among the youths, a young man void of understanding,
The verse pictures a youth among the simple and inexperienced who is void of understanding and lacking discernment, vulnerable to being enticed away from virtue. It belongs to instruction warning him to choose wisdom, the path of life, and it warns young men who are starting down the sinful path condemned in Proverbs 7 of the fate ahead unless they turn back. The woman in the fuller description to which the verse belongs represents a class rather than one particular woman.
He yields to sexual temptation and under cover of darkness goes the way to the house of the strange woman, who with the attire of a harlot and subtle of heart still lies in wait at every corner. He goes after her straightway as an ox goes to the slaughter and as a bird hastens to the snare, not knowing it is for his life, till a dart strikes through his liver. His ruin follows because he will not heed reproof and is deceived by flattery, for rejecting wisdom's instruction leads to spiritual disease and death. Momentary pleasure is followed by long years of bitter remorse fatal to health of soul and body, for she has cast down many wounded and slain many strong men, and her house is the way to hell going down to the chambers of death.
The verse gives a vivid truthful setting forth of vice and its results, spoken plainly to make such sin appear exceeding sinful so that young men take warning in time and escape the snares about their feet, painting vice in its own true colors without making it attractive. The warning that one without understanding is vulnerable to sexual and moral danger applies also to young women who are left ignorant of the dangers around them and may be led by a single false step into a life of shame.
