Proverbs 8:25

Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

The speaker in this passage is the Son of God speaking of Himself. The verse belongs to the revelation of what true wisdom is, and true faith takes in the whole man and lifts the soul out of its imperfect, undeveloped condition so that it can comprehend that wisdom. It teaches that Christ existed before all created works, before the earth and its mountains and hills were made.

He was brought forth from everlasting, set up from everlasting, and possessed by the Lord in the beginning of His way. He is the Word, the only begotten of God, the eternal, divine, pre-existent, self-existent Son of God. He is distinct from the Father yet one with Him, one with the eternal Father in nature, in character, and in purpose. There was never a time when He was not in close fellowship with God, and He shared the glory of heaven before creation.

He was present with the Father when the foundations of the earth were appointed, as one brought up with Him, daily His delight and rejoicing always before Him. He is the associate and co-worker with the Sovereign of the universe who could appreciate His purposes and share His joy in giving happiness to created beings. He is the only being who could enter fully into all the counsels and purposes of God.
