Proverbs 8:30

Then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight, rejoicing always before him;

The speaker is Christ Himself, the Word, the only begotten Son of God, telling of His own life beside the Father before His works of old and before His incarnation. He was by the Father as one brought up and raised up with Him, in close and glorious fellowship, daily His delight and deeply loved every day. He was rejoicing always before Him and joyful in His presence, sharing the Father's joy in giving happiness to created beings.

He was the Father's associate and co-worker, one who could appreciate God's purposes and share them and enter into all His counsels. In that fellowship He shared in the work of creation and of ordering the earth, present when the foundations of the earth were appointed and when the sea was given its boundary. It was through Him that the Father wrought in creating all heavenly beings.

He is one with the eternal Father in nature, in character, and in purpose, set up from everlasting, the only being who could so enter in. He is the pre-existent, self-existent Son of God, and there was never a time when He was not with the eternal God. That close and glorious fellowship makes His coming to this earth in flesh an act of self-humbling and a hiding of His glory. Then He took the sinner's place, gave His life to ransom humanity, and bridged the gulf that sin had made.

The chapter belongs to true wisdom and true faith, which engages the whole person. That faith lifts the soul from an imperfect and undeveloped state and helps it understand true wisdom.
