Rejoicing in the habitable part of his earth; and my delights were with the sons of men.
In Proverbs 8 heavenly wisdom itself speaks to the human family, giving wonderful instruction and calling people to receive the Lord's teaching and wisdom. True faith takes hold of the whole person, lifting the soul from its imperfect, undeveloped state so that it can understand true wisdom. The verse declares that Christ's delights were with the sons of men, that God's delight and love are directed toward humanity.
It also declares His delight in the habitable earth as the place where people live. From the time of the patriarchs, indeed from the beginning, He has visited His people and shown them condescending kindness and exceptional, unexampled love, including His long history of kindness toward Israel. In that love He has been a present help to all who sincerely seek Him. By this kindness He seeks to win hearts and inspire confidence in Him.
