Wisdom Invites Guests to Her Feast Under Seven PillarsBible World

Proverbs 9:3

She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city,

The one crying is Christ in the character of Wisdom, heavenly wisdom from above, giving invitation and counsel to mankind. Before this cry Wisdom has built her house and prepared a rich and wholesome feast, which is truth itself, beautiful, consistent, strong and lovely like the architecture of heaven. That feast is the last gospel feast issued in the closing hours of probation, since supper is the last meal in the day. Its wholesome food is present truth, the commandments of God, and the testimonies of Jesus Christ, proclaimed while the Spirit and the bride say, Come.

The furnished table is a royal banquet, the marriage supper of the Lamb, where all may be happy guests if they choose. Sending forth her maidens to cry upon the highest places of the city means sending forth God's servants to cry aloud publicly and openly to gather guests. It is an open invitation to her pleasant and honorable service and its princely recompense. The call urges the simple, the hungry, and him that wanteth understanding to turn in, eat and drink, forsake the foolish and live and go in the way of understanding and become wise, for the entrance of God's words gives light and understanding to the simple. The food and drink Wisdom offers nourish the soul and strengthen its powers to advance further, as the summer sun and showers nourish herbs and grains.

To the honest, zealous, sincere inquirer for truth the invitation has multiplied charms. The call invites earnest effort in the field of labor before us because of the possibilities within reach and the infinitely glorious results to be secured in the end. Now mercy lingers while the voice is sounding and guests are collecting until the house is full. Then the Master will rise up and shut the door and many will seek to enter in and shall not be able, bringing a famine not of bread nor thirst for water but of hearing the word of the Lord. After this Jesus will come and gather the saints who waited in patience for Him.
